The personality of individual moon jars feels more pronounced and legible than personality in other forms. Maybe because the moon jar’s form is so pure, the character of individual moon jars becomes unique. Every minor variation and gesture is amplified, reflecting the hands and movements that produce it, recording the mood of its maker. Though true with all ceramic forms, for me this feels most essential in moon jars. More complex forms can obscure the persona of the piece; with the simplicity of the moon jar, it feels like all else falls away, leaving just each piece’s individual personality.
